Lamu West member of Parliament Stanley Muiruri Muthama was on Monday arraigned at an Eldoret court where he was charged with 13 counts of tax fraud totalling to Sh487.914642 million.
Muthama was on Thursday arrested by detectives at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi and spent a night in custody thereafter was released on a 100,000 cash bail.
Appearing before the Eldoret Chief Magistrate Charles Obultsa the Lamu West member of parliament pleaded not guilty of all the 13 counts levelled against him.
“The charges remain allegations subject to proof and the seriousness of the case will be determined during trial set bond of sh 3 million and one surety with alternative cash bail of Sh500,000,” the Eldoret Chief Magistrate said.
“The case will be mentioned on 15 the July 2019 for the prosecution to avail witness documents and any other exhibits that they would wish to rely on and that it should be served to the defence before the said date,” added Obulutsa.
He reiterated that the case hearing date of the case will be set after the 15 July 2019 hearing.
Muthama is accused of engaging in tax fraud and is expected to be arraigned in Eldoret.
