The Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) has raised concerns over the increased cases of fraud in the country.
The association has now asked Kenyans to avoid using public Wi-Fi for online transactions and only make such payments on a secure internet connection.
According to KBA, con artists are using Wi-Fi to access passwords of innocent Kenyans and then rob then at the end of the day.
They noted that most of the Wi-Fi connections are not secure for use.
The online users have been asked to exercise caution so that they do not end up as a victim of circumstances.
KBA also said that online transactions have emerged as the major target for the fraudsters in different parts of the nation.
“As you make online payments online this holiday, ensure you are using a secure Internet connection. A secure connection prevents unauthorized access to your personal information such as your password and PIN,” KBA said in a statement quoted by Capital FM.
The association has further asked the general public to support it in the war against increased cases of cybercrime in different areas.
It also asked Kenyans not to share their passwords as well as PINs.
In the past, criminals have taken advantage of these details to rob relatives, family, and relatives.
