Born in 1940, Dr Manduku was among the first surgeons in Kenya. He studied in Russia before quitting for private practice in 1978 when he established Hema Hospital.

Dr Manduku was first elected in 1992, beating Prof Sam Ongeri. He lost his seat in 1997 before recapturing it in 2002. He lost to Ongeri again in 2007.

Governor John Nyagarama termed him a 'humble servant, who put his people first'. He promised to stand with the family during this trying moment.

"I am disappointed with the untimely death. He was a humble servant who worked hard to uplift the lives of his people. We shall stand with him."

ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire termed the death as a loss to the Abagusii people, adding that it will take time to have a person of his caliber.

"It's sad that we have lost him at this time. Many of us looked unto emulating him. He was a pillar to leadership in this nation," said Bosire.

Others who mourned him are Jerusha Momanyi, Victor Swanya, Richard Tongi, Ezekiel Mochogu, Governor James Ongwae and Don Bosco Gichana.

Dr Manduku has been battling a disease at Nairobi Hospital before he succumbed on Saturday. He served as assistant minister in Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
