The county assembly becomes the eighth to reject the proposals. The MCAs cited reduction of constituencies as one of the reasons they cannot pass the bill. They argued that Aukot was kicking them out of their office through the push for the referendum.

The move of the lawmakers comes after Aukot faulted mainstream political parties for the woes that have befallen his camp as the push for a referendum gains momentum.

He said that Deputy President William Ruto was partly to blame for the problems his camp has continued to encounter since he presented the proposals. He has also lamented that some of the MCAs have been bribed to rejected the proposals without even reading them to the latter.

“By lying to a whole nation that the Punguza Mizigo Bill has failed, before 40 counties have debated it, the Deputy President has shown his contempt for the ordinary mwananchi that he has failed and lied to in the last six years,” said Dr Aukot.

He has also been faulting ODM Leader Raila Amolo Odinga and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru for the party’s troubles.
