Makueni Member of Parliament Dan Maanzo has warned Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga against exiting the National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition.
In the run up to the Kibra by-election last month, ODM, through Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, hinted that it is done with NASA, which also includes ANC, Ford Kenya and Wiper parties.
However, the party is yet to make true it's threat, with Maanzo noting that it better not, warning that a walkout will render the former Prime Minister politically finished.
“Raila has no choice but to work within the original NASA. If he disorganises the party through people like Sifuna (ODM Secretary General) he will lose. NASA must remain together," he told the Standard on Monday.
According to Maanzo, a member of the Wiper party, the solution to the cracks within the alliance is not a walkout but rather dialogue, which he thinks Raila should embrace.
He said, while Raila is free to walk out, he will have done himself great harm with regards to his future political intentions, which he should consider.
"If there are other issues, they can be arbitrated. He is free to pull out, but he does not have any other configuration,” added the legislator.
His remarks were echoed by Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior who said the coalition is already ailing, and an exit of one of the member parties will not solve anything.
Cracks began emerging in NASA after Raila's co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) snubbed his 2018 mock presidential swearing-in in Uhuru Park, Nairobi.
The rift widened when Ford Kenya and ANC fielded candidates in Kibra race, which was initially held by ODM before the death of Ken Okoth, which saw internal attacks intensify.
ODM has also been accused of refusing to share political party funds with her mates in the alliance.
