AMISOM troops in collaboration with Somali National Army on Friday night killed over 20 Al-shabaab militants in one of the fiercest fight in recent weeks, reports Garowe Online.
The attack at Central Hiran province is the latest victory for the security officers who are struggling to weed out the militants from the central and southern parts of the war torn nation.
Commissioner Jalalaqsi township Mohamed Nur confirmed the Friday's victory against Al-Shabaab, adding that security forces will intensify crackdown.
An army who spoke in confidence said besides killing over 20 Al-shabaab militants, the security forces managed to confiscate weapons.
"We didn't suffer any casualties. We recovered a number of IEDs, guns and ammunition. It didn't take us much time to bring them down," he said.
The achievements come amid Kenya's commitment to continue helping Somalia restore peace and stability, with Majority Leader Aden Duale saying Somalia remains strategic.
Mr Duale said as immediate neighbours Kenya and Jubbaland have a special relationship which has forced the two to work closely to address common security challenges especially those posed by Al Shabaab.
“Of course we will continue to work closely alongside the Federal government so as to forge a formidable front against the menace of terrorism and state building efforts.”
He had attended the inauguration of KDF ally Sheikh Islam Ahmed Madobe, who was installed as Jubbaland president last week in Kismayo.
