On Monday, DP Ruto reached out to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) with the claims, after nabbing a letter from a cabinet member addressed to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In the said letter which was also circulated on social media, the CS is claiming that some top state officials have been holding meetings with the intention of eliminating the DP.

Investigations by both the DCI and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) have since established that the letter was fake and might have originated from Ruto's camp.

Itumbi has now come out to rubbish reports by a local daily on Sunday that he is among the suspects and has since switched off his phone for fear of being arrested.

He says that he does not work for the DP but rather in President Kenyatta's office, adding that he operates from the State House and not Harambee Annex offices.

“By the way I do not work for DP. I work for the Presidency from State House. I have not received any summons. I learnt about it today from the Sunday Nation, unless Sunday Nation is an extension of the DCI. When I receive summons I will let you know. People should not say we have switched off our phones," he stated.

Other Presidential Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU) officials accommodated in Ruto's offices include James Kinyua (Branding and Events), Munyori Buku (Public Communications) and Erick Ngeno (Messaging).
