The mysterious death of Alexander Kipsang Muge on 14th August 1990 as a result of tragic road accident is still written in the history of Anglican Churches of Kenya.
In February 2018, his wife Herma Muge took her last breath at Elgon View estate on the outskirts of Eldoret town.
After her husband's death, Herma devoted herself to the Church to continue with what he had started.
According to the expectations of many and the requirements of the Kalenjin community's cultural practices and beliefs, Herma was supposed to be buried next to his husband's grave.
She was however laid to rest at Kipng’oror village in Nandi County, 70km away from St Matthew's Anglican Church of Kenya, where Alexander Muge was buried.
The church before the burial day clarified why they made the decision to separate the resting places of the religious couple.
“Burying the late Herma Muge next to her husband’s grave would have required the county government and the Synod to give a nod and after consultations with the family. The family was of the idea she be buried at their ancestral home in Nandi,” said the Very Reverend Bernard Kosgei of St Mathews ACK as quoted by the Standard.
Noah Melly who was the family spokesman said that the process of seeking permission to bury Herma next to her husband was long and they, therefore, resolved to bury her next to her father-in-law.
