The activist said that the dad died after a long battle with cancer.  He also said that he had been sick for close to one year before he met his death.

Mumia also said that the death is a big blow to the family.  He recounted that he was a pillar of strength in his life before he even decided to renounce religion.

Mumia, who has been very vocal on issues of national interest, said that he will dearly miss the late dad.

“My dad has been suffering from prostate cancer for the last one year. He was diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer. I had come to accept it that my dad was having a disease that was terminal. It is a very difficult time for me. He was always there for me and my siblings,” said Mr Mumia.

Mumia noted that the father nurtured him into a strong man through his religious beliefs.

He also said that he used to enjoy a close personal relationship with him and they could discuss a wide range of issues including religion among others.

He further said that he has accepted the fact that his dad is no more.
