The United States of America military reportedly carried out a military strike that led to the death of Qassim al-Rimi, a top leader of the Al-Qaida terrorist group.
The Guardian newspaper reported that President Donald Trump appeared to confirm the death of al-Rimi.
He shared a tweet by a security analyst that discussed the death of the leader of the Al-Qaida affiliate in Yemen even before Pentagon officials or Al-Qaida confirmed the same.
In 2013, Qassim al-Rimi sent a message to the US warning about possible attacks.
“Your security is not achieved by despoiling other nations’ security or by attacking and oppressing them," he said then, as quoted by the Guardian.
Top security analysts saw Qassim al-Rimi as a possible successor to the current overall Al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, according to Politico.
Security officials in the US considered him to be a high-value target who had to be taken off the field.
He was in the radar of the US government over his role in a terror attack on an American embassy in Suna, Yemen in 2008.
Qassim al-Rimi's death would be a pointer to an aggressive campaign by the Trump administration to take the war to terrorists across the world.
