Former Mukurwe-ini Member of Parliament Kabando Wa Kabando has lashed out at politicians piling pressure on President Uhuru Kenyatta to throw his weight behind his deputy William Ruto in 2022.
Kabando said it was mockery for the leaders allied to the Tanga Tanga group to ask Uhuru to support his deputy when they have been attacking his handshake with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
The former lawmaker said the handshake was more important to the president than 2022 polls, since it brought stability which was enabling him build his legacy.
"So, those MPs demanding Uhuru supports DP are only mocking Head of State. Ruto is being deceived by money chasers," Kabando tweeted on Wednesday.
A section of politicians particularly from the Mt Kenya region have been calling on the president to keep his word and back Ruto as he promised, ahead of 2013 polls.
“The BBI has become useless and it should be discarded. Ruto is our presidential candidate for 2022,” said Kirinyaga Women Representative Purity Ngirici last week.
However, the calls have been opposed by Kieleweke group which accuses the DP's camp of sabotaging Uhuru's development agenda by engaging in early campaigns.
“There are MPs going round the Central region campaigning under the pretense of donating to churches. I feel for them because come 2022 they will not be getting any votes for going against our president,” warned Nominated MP Maina Kamanda recently.
