The body of missing Kisumu Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Deputy Chairman Ferdinand Ongeri was on Saturday found dumped in a Nandi forest.
Mr Ongeri went missing in Kisumu on Wednesday last week but his decomposing remains were on Saturday found by herdsmen in Kimondi Forest.
On the day of his disappearance, he had just left a meeting with the Kisumu County Government before leaving for a dispensary in Riat, where he has been posted.
According to the branch Chair Maurice Opetu, the deceased left the meeting at 11am.
“Mr Ongeri attended a successful meeting with (Kisumu County) chief officer of health on Wednesday at the county offices before he left at 11am for Riat Dispensary where he worked,” he said.
He added that the latter later left his house where he had retired to early than usual for Kiboswa market at about 3pm, after which he was not seen again.
The finding was confirmed by Nandi County Police Commander Samson Ole Kine, who said that preliminary investigations indicated that he might have been murdered.
He noted signs of a struggle between the doctor and his murderers, adding that he had no identification documents on him, but his body has since been identified by his kin.
"It seems the man was murdered elsewhere before his body was dumped in the forest,” he told the Nation.
