Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso is dead.
Dr. Laboso passed away on Monday at the age of 59 years while under going treatment at the Nairobi Hospital, where she had been placed under full bed rest.
She succumbed after a long battle from an illness.
Her death comes two weeks after returning to the country from India where she was receiving treatment.
Her death is a shock as early on Monday, she had issued a statement in which she stated that she was recovering well.
“The office of the Governor would like to reassure the residents of Bomet and general public that Bomet Governor Dr. Joyce Laboso is recuperating well and still under observation,” reads part of the statement signed by County Director of Communications Ezra Kirui.
Kenyans first became aware of her illness when African Union Representative Raila Odinga and Kenya’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Manoah Esipisu paid her a visit while receiving treatment in a London hospital.
Her death comes just days after the death of Kibra Member of Parliament Mr Ken Okoth who succumbed to cancer.
Details on the cause of her death are yet to be revealed.
