Mourners at Sero Village in Homa Bay County were left shocked on Saturday after boda boda riders stormed a burial and lynched a pastor, Samson Ongei, who was presiding over the funeral.
The irate bodaboda riders arrived at the funeral when the man of God was on the podium giving out a sermon.
They grabbed him and gave him a dog's beating for allegedly being involved in a number of robbery with violence cases in the area.
Speaking to Standard media, a mourner, Philip, said that they initially thought the mob was joining them in the send off of a female member of the pastor's church.
"Mourners thought the mob was joining them in the sendoff, only to go straight to the podium and seized the pastor, cutting short the sermon," said Philip as quoted by Standard.
The irate mob, mainly of bodaboda riders said that the pastor is among a gang of robbers who target boda boda riders.
He is said to have taken part in a recent robbery where one of the riders got robbed.
However, drama didnt stop there are the pastor was taken to his house few kilometers from the funeral, locked in and the house set on fire.
Confirming this incidence, Kalanya Kanyango Chief, Fredrick Onyango said that residents have been cautioned against taken the law ion their hands. '
“I urge residents to avoid taking the law in their hands. They should report crime suspects to security officials,” said the chief as quoted by Standard.
His body was taken to Homa Bay County hospital mortuary.
