Speaking at Mama Ngina Waterfront Park in Mombasa County, Joho invited Ruto to make his remarks and asked him to declare his stand on the handshake.

In his speech, Ruto, however, steered off the issue of the handshake.

“I want to welcome Deputy President to make his remarks and then he should declare his support for the handshake. (Nataka kumkaribishia naibu wa rais na namkaribisha aje aseme na nyinyi halafu aunge mambo ya handshake)," Joho said in a video shared on YouTube.

In his address, Ruto said that the Jubilee government has made strides in the matters of development.

He also said that he fully supports the Big Four Agenda, adding that the government needs support to achieve the same.

Ruto also challenged other leaders to unite so that they can support the government in its quest to attain different goals.

“We have seen tremendous investment in our infrastructure; we have built a brand new railway, we have built many kilometres of road, we have connected millions to electricity…” Ruto said, as quoted in a tweet by Citizen TV.
