Renowned Kenyan marathoners; Geoffrey Kamworor and Joyciline Jepkosgei on Sunday made headlines after they emerged victorious in the New York City Marathon.
Kamworor won the New York title in 2 hours, 8 minutes and 13 seconds.
This was the second time that Kamworor, who shares the same coach with world fastest marathoner Eliud Kipchoge, was reclaiming the title after he clinched it in 2017.
Reports from Nation indicate that another Kenyan, Albert Korir, came in second finishing the marathon in 2 hours 8 minutes and 36 seconds. Girma Bekele Gebre from Ethiopia finished third in 2 hours 8 hours and 38 seconds.
On the other hand, Jepkosgei surprised women's defending champion Mary Keitany when she pulled away from her in the last 5 kilometers to win the marathon in 2 hours 22 minutes and 38 seconds.
Keitany who is a four-time New York City marathon finished second in 2 hours 23 minutes and 32 seconds.
Ethiopia's Ruti Aga, finished third in 2 hours 25 minutes and 51 seconds.
Kenyan athletes have this year performed well in various marathons with the highlight being Eliud Kipchoge who went into the record for being world's fastest marathoner after finishing a full marathon in 1 hour, 59 minutes and 40 seconds.
