Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i would win in the 2022 presidential race is backed by two of the nation's biggest political figures, political analyst Herman Manyora has said.
Already, there are reports that President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga could be grooming the no-nonsense cabinet minister to take over the executive slots.
On his side, the CS has been among the most vocal state officers lately and has been the face of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) in government.
Manyora, a professor at the University of Nairobi, says that Matiang'i would surely carry the day with the backing of the two, if properly packaged, terming him a "sure bet".
“That would be a sure bet, however, that "it would all depend on how Uhuru and Raila manage to convince their strongholds," he said on Friday.
He says that the CS has elevated his image by continuously being in the eyes of Kenyans, which makes him a very strong candidate in the event that he declares interest in the top post.
He said that henceforth, should the CS decide to join politics, he is a man who should be taken seriously.
“Matiang'i is increasingly on the radar of many Kenyans. He is not a man that you can easily ignore in Kenya's politics in 2022 and beyond,” he added.
However, the CS who was initially being associated with a top slot in the Gusii region remains silent in his 2022 plans.
