Church leaders in Nyaribari Chache Constituency in Kisii County have been warned against being used by politicians ahead of the 2022 general elections.
Area MP Richard Tong'i while speaking on Saturday when he joined worshipers for a service at Gesinga SDA church appealed to church leaders across the region to focus on preaching the gospel and not engaging in politics.
"Some politicians may be out to compromise pastors and church leaders by giving out money purposely to get political mileage ahead of the 2022 polls. Politics in the church should not be condoned," he said.
Tong'i, a Jubilee legislator also challenged politicians going to churches to be worshipers and desist from telling faithful lies about other leaders.
The MP further said he will continue offering financial support to churches to improve infrastructure.
"Throughout my tenure, I will ensure infrastructure at the houses of worship across the constituency are improved for our people to worship the Lord in a conducive environment," he stated.
The MP further called for tolerance among residents saying local divisive politicians should not be given room to tell lies to get political mileage.
