For the past few days, a number of second-term serving governors have pitched tent in Kibra to campaign for Imran Okoth, the ODM candidate for the by-election.
On Friday, Kisii Governor James Ongwae and his Nyamira counterpart John Nyagarama pitched tent in Kibra, after holding a meeting with Raila Odinga.
The two are serving their last terms. While Nyagarama will be 77 thus not likely to go for any office, Ongwae is an ambitious former civil servant.
Mr Ongwae also runs show at Raila's kitchen cabinet. He is one of those who come with policy framework within Mr Odinga's campaign teams.
According to an insider, Ongwae is plotting to take over as South Nyanza Premier should Kenyans amend the constitution.
"We have a clue that there will be regional governments. As a strategy, we have to organise ourselves early so that we take over," one of his handlers said.
Mr Odinga has been passionate about creation of third tier goverment which he argues that will pool more resources in counties without capacity to handle mega projects.
Recently, one of Building Bridges Initiative team member Mzee James Matundura hinted a possible referendum based on the recommendations of the team.
"We shall have all constituencies and counties retained. Some of issues will be instantly solved through respective goverment departments while others will require referendum," he said.
Dr Vincent Moracha contends that creating of such posts will bring about cohesion and reduce political temperatures at the local level.
"If regional governments are coming, I think they will minimise political temperatures. We shall also see counties contributing towards mega projects," he said.
