Nairobi Speaker Beatrice Elachi has appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Amolo Odinga to intervene into the leadership crisis facing the county.
Speaking during the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) consultative meeting in Kakamega's Bukhungu Stadium.
Elachi lamented that the county is facing a leadership crisis after Governor Mike Sonko was barred from accessing office over the alleged loss of Sh.357 million.
She asked the two leaders to advise her on the way forward after the county boss nominated Anne Kanuna Mwendwa as his Deputy amid protests from different factions.
"We have problems in Nairobi. I know Nairobi residents are expecting a Deputy Governor but we must get advise from President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Amolo Odinga so that we determine the way forward for Nairobi. My position is to stand with Nairobi so that we can realize development(Tuko na matatizo mengi sana Nairobi. Najua kwamba Nairobi wanatarajia Deputy Governor lakini lazima tupate ushauri kutoka kwa mheshimiwa Rais, Kutoka kwa Prime Minister ili tuweze kujua njia ya Nairobi ni ipi kwa hivyo mimi yangu ni kilio simameni na Nairobi ile tuweze kuleta maendeleo)” she said in part.
The Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji is now seeking for the cancellation of Sonko's bail terms after he accused him of violating the order from the court.
