On December 5, Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattani listed Kisumu among 35 counties blacklisted from funding for failing to pay suppliers within the provided timeframe.

The governor now says that the move is injurious to counties, arguing that it has frustrated county operations and saying that the pending bills were not accrued under his term.

"Penalising or denying us funds based on past historical injustices is not economically feasible. We must engage in the reconstruction of Kenya in a good way,'' he said.

The county boss made the remarks during the Jamhuri Day Celebrations at the Jomo Kenyatta Sports Grounds in Kisumu Town on Thursday.

His deputy Mathews Owilli called for an end to the ongoing doctors strike, saying that the demands of the striking medics, including promotions, will be met.

The deputy county boss added that financial demands made by the medical practitioners will also be looked into by the county, urging them to return to their work stations.

"We have passed the resolution in Cabinet and plead with striking doctors to resume work,'' he said.
