Ken Okoth's leadership skills were showcased during his time in various institutions across the world before he won Kibra MP seat in 2013.

According to Monica Okoth, his wife, Mr Okoth was a student leader at a university in Austria and it's where the two met before marrying.

Speaking at Starehe Boys during a memorial service, Mrs Okoth also said that the two led a smooth life until Mr Okoth succumbed to colon cancer in Nairobi Hospital.

"I met Ken Okoth at the university; he was the only African student in our Austrian university and he became our student leader," she said in her eulogy

"I have led an incredible life with Ken Okoth, lived in many parts of the world with him - we were truly best friends. Ken was ill in the last two years and it was sad to watch him suffer. Thank you all for your support and love," she added.

At Starehe, Okoth also served as a prefect. He got a scholarship to study in Georgetown University in Washington DC after the completion of his High School.

The 41-year-old legislator will be cremated on Saturday at a private ceremony after a funeral service in Kabondo Kasipul, where his mother Angelina Ajwang was born.

“After the funeral service and viewing of the body at Got Rateng Secondary School, Ken will be given to the family to do the rest, just as we did with Kenneth Matiba,” said Odinga.

On Thursday, residents of Kibra will have a chance to view his body, with several leaders among them Raila Odinga expected to attend. His relatives from the father's side wants him buried at Rangwe.
