The business mogul and former Funyula MP rarely makes public appearances ever since losing his seat to Dr Paul Otuoma in 2007 polls.

On his Twitter, Governor Anyang Nyong'o said it was honour to host the former Vice President, who is commonly called 'Uncle Moody' by his supporters.

"It was an honour hosting Uncle Moody Awuori earlier this morning in my office. We thank God for keeping him in good health and shape," he said.

Moody came into limelight in 2003 after retired President Mwai Kibaki appointed him to VP post after the death of Michael Wamalwa. The appointment caught many by surprise.

He is remembered for his revolution in prisons. His daughter, Judy Wakhungu, served as cabinet minister from 2013 to 2017. She was demoted to ambassadorial job.

Last year, President Uhuru Kenyatta defended his decision to appoint the 91-year-old former politician as chair of Sports Funds. The appointment had sparked fury.

“Ukiona vile watu wanaiba pesa halafu tupatie kijana. Mimi afadhali nikae na huyo mzee achunge hiyo pesa itumike vile inatakikana. Tumeona vile watu wakipewa kazi kama hiyo wanenda kufanya fanya, si afadhali tupatie huyo mzee hiyo pesa ndio iwarudie. Watu waniwache bana sitaki mambo mingi” he said.
