The Uasin Gishu County has revealed that one of the streets in Eldoret town will be named after world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge.
Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno said that the county government is planning to have one street in Eldoret town dedicated to the marathoner putting Kenya on a global map.
“We will of course name a street in honour of (Eliud) Kipchoge because he has brought a lot of joy to our county,” said Chemno as quoted by Citizen.
The deputy governor has also urged the national government to consider doing the same, by specifically focusing on finishing the Kipchoge Keino stadium in time.
"We are currently working on the 64 Stadium and would like to urge the national government to expedite the works on Kipchoge Keino Stadium,”said Chemno
Kipchoge made history when he crossed the finish line after just 1 hr, 59 minutes and 40 seconds, becoming the first human being to complete the 42km race within 2 hours mark.
