People living with disabilities in Kisii County have protested calling for fresh elections regarding their county representatives.
Addressing Hivisasa in Kisii town on Tuesday, they expressed their dissatisfaction with the current leadership's laxity in addressing crucial issues.
"The current chairman is asleep since we elected him; it has been two years. Some of us have completed college and I have pursued tailoring and we hear there are free machines but we have never seen them. We are really suffering," protested Jennifer Gesare Nyabuto.
"We requested to be enumerated separately as people living with disabilities but the chairman went silent. We were not recruited to enumerate people simply because they said we are disabled and he went underground. No one to defend us. We want to kick him out and elect a new chairman who understands his duties," lamented Frederick Mweresa.
The Secretary-General of Gusii Governance Watch, Vincent Gekone has called upon the chairman to step aside if he cannot execute his duties.
"Let us treat our disabled with respect just like other people. There are laws that clearly stipulate how people living with disabilities should be treated. In elective posts or nominated posts, more so in Kisii, these people are not represented. Let the chairman step aside and these people peacefully hold an election," advised Gekone.
In his response to Hivisasa on Phone, the besieged chairman, Joseph Nyakebako dismissed the allegations terming them as malice aimed at tarnishing his name.
