Political analyst Dennis Anyonka has said Kenyans should not expect politics revolving around the Building Bridges Initiative, to dominate the country this year.
Until late last year, the BBI report was the main topic of debate in the country, with politicians and Kenyans taking sides for and against it.
However, Anyonka argued that 2020 will be dominated by the intentions of the leading political elite, President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
"Many expect the BBI debate to dominate the political arena this year, but to the contrary, the debate has been watered down by the common position taken by the three," he told the People Daily on Wednesday.
The commentator observed that while Uhuru will be keen on delivering on his Big 4 agenda, Ruto and Raila will be using this year to advance their political ambitions for the future.
He also noted that the president will not use the BBI debate to wide the rift between him and DP, since the latter has already expressed support for the initiative.
“Since Ruto has declared his support for the BBI in whatever direction it takes, it means that there is no opposition and hence the President will not use it advance his differences with his deputy,” he said.
