The US government has donated Sh340m food aid to Kenya as part of its plan to help the country curb hunger.
At least 18,300 metric tons of food have arrived at the port of Mombasa as the government puts in place different measures to ensure hunger is a thing of the past.
Several regions have been affected by the food shortage following the delayed rainfall. The American government donated the food through USAID.
Residents of different counties including Samburu, Tana River Isiolo, Baringo, Turkana, Garissa, Wajir, and Marsabit are set to benefit from the donations.
US ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter on Tuesday said that his government is committed to ensuring that Kenyans do not perish because of lack of food.
He assured the Kenyan government that the US will continue to offer full support to its leadership as part of the friendship we share.
“The United States is committed to addressing the needs of Kenyans suffering as a result of devastating drought and severe food insecurity in the northern and eastern regions of the country," said US McCarter.
The food will be distributed to different counties soon. The government has assured residents in hunger-stricken areas to remain patient as efforts to provide them food continue.
