West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo has weighed on in the forthcoming census exercise.
The county boss, who Wednesday visited Natekol village in Uganda, asked the government to ensure that all the pastoralists who have migrated to the neighbouring nation are captured in this report to ensure some counties are not disadvantaged when it comes to the allocation of resources.
He noted that there are thousands of pastoralists who are always on the move, adding that they are likely not to be counted when the exercise begins.
He appealed to the government to send enumerators to Uganda to capture the numbers of the herders.
The first-term governor noted that the herders are always moving, which makes it difficult to tell their exact number if certain measures are not put in place.
He noted that the process is critical because the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) uses the data when it comes to the allocation of resources before another exercise is conducted.
Trans Nzoia county commissioner Samson Ojwang’ said that the government wants all persons to be at their home on that night to ensure accurate data is captured.
“We want the right data to help in strategic planning for socio-economic development. Misleading information will affect planning,” he said, as quoted by Standard.
