Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i on Friday kicked off his Gusii tour in earnest at Borabu Sub County in Nyamira where he was received by several leaders.
His trip, the third within July, comes amid debate that he should consider vying for presidency in 2022 when President Uhuru Kenyatta retires.
Governor John Nyagarama led other leaders in receiving Dr Matiang'i, who is expected to attend four functions across Nyamira and Kisii Counties.
Earlier, Nyagarama said the trip should not be politicised, adding that the unity quest among Gusii leadership and residents is unstoppable.
"His trip is not political. As leaders, we are determined to ensure our people get best services from government. There is nothing wrong when supporting one of our own," he said.
Borabu MP Ben Momanyi, who is the host in Matutu, said leaders should engage the minister to support more development initiatives in the region.
"When 2022 comes, we shall let people know our stand. For now, let's support development. I am happy that a modern police post is being launched here," he said.
Others who turned up to receive Dr Matiang'i include Speaker Moffat Teya, Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi, Majority Leader Duke Masira, Senator Okong'o Mogeni and several MCAs.
After Matutu function, Dr Matiang'i will commission Keroka Police Station then travel to Kisii where he's expected to launch Kenyenya Police Station. He will attend a fundraiser at Riokindo High School.
