Garissa Township Member of Parliament Aden Duale has congratulated Mohamed Islam Madobe on his re-election as the president of Jubaland State of Somalia.

In a Facebook post on Friday evening, Duale, who also doubles up as the leader of the majority in the National Assembly, commended the State for conducting a peaceful election.

He appealed to Madobe to work towards reconciling the people of Jubaland, saying that Kenya had an interest in seeing Jubaland remain peaceful.

"I take this opportunity to Congratulate President Ahmed Mohamed Islam “Madobe" on his re-election as the President of Jubaland State of Somalia and commend the Speaker and members of the Jubaland State Assembly, traditional elders for conducting a peaceful, transparent and democratic elections. President Madobe should now begin a process of reconciliation with other political leaders and forge a long-lasting relationship with the Federal Government of Somalia. The peace and stability of Jubaland State is critical to the national security interest of Kenya as our immediate neighbour, the Horn of Africa and important to the war against extremists terrorist elements in Somalia," Duale's congratulatory message read.

Madobe won the election in which his closest rival decried irregularities.

In his speech, Madobe pledged to ensure that the State's peace was not compromised.
