Police in Yatta, Machakos County are hunting for a 50-year-old man who allegedly defiled his 7-year-old daughter.
The suspect is said to have committed the act in Mamba B village.
The incident was confirmed by area Assistant Chief Cosmas Kaloki,who said the suspect fled after committing the crime.
He told the press on Saturday that the police arrested the mother of the child, and is in police custody helping with investigations.
"On Friday evening, police arrested the mother of the child, the dad had escaped after committing the act and police are pursuing him," Kaloki said.
He noted that the child is receiving treatment at Matuu level four hospital.
Kaloki urged residents to avoid covering up such cases whenever they happen, but instead, ensure they report to the authorities.
"We won't tolerate defilement cases, anyone found culpable will be prosecuted. We should all know covering up such cases is a crime and you could be arrested. Let's all fight against defilement," he said.
