The prostate is an organ located under the bladder that produces semen. The risk of developing prostate cancer progressively advances with age but this does not mean young men can't be affected.
Here are five tips that will help you avoid developing prostate cancer:
1. Eat tomatoes and other red fruits
Red fruits like tomatoes and watermelon contain an essential element called lycopene. Lycopene is an antioxidant that helps fight or prevent the growth of tumours or rather cancer cells. The redder the tomato, the more the lycopene content. Cook tomatoes so that the body can absorb the lycopene readily.
2. Make coffee your friend
Coffee has been linked to lower risks of prostate cancer. Drinking coffee on a daily basis could protect you from developing this type of cancer. Regulate how much coffee you drink because caffeine could cause other health conditions such as irregular heartbeat.
3. Exercise
Exercise has been known to be a perfect preventive measure against several health problems. Exercising helps you maintain a healthy weight hence lowering your risks of prostate cancer. This cancer has been found to be common in obese and overweight men.
4. Avoid fatty foods and too much dairy products
Fatty foods contribute to being overweight and this exposes you to this type of cancer. Consuming too much dairy products such as cheese, yoghurt and milk have also been linked to prostate cancer.
5. Avoid grilled or fried meats
You are advised to avoid meats cooked at high temperatures typically by grilling or frying. At high temperatures, these meats might form chemicals that change DNA resulting in an increased risk of cancer.
