Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika has maintained that she will only support the elevation of Nakuru to City status if it will be for the benefit of the residents.
Senator Kihika who spoke on Monday afternoon during the handing over of a brand new welfare bus to Nakuru’s Wakulima market traders clarified that she is not against the City status but the process should involve all leaders to ensure the interests of the Nakuru residents are adhered to.
She added that the City should not be a burden to the residents of Nakuru town.
Already the John Kitilit-led taskforce prepared a report that was adopted by the Nakuru County Assembly.
The report is now at the Senate and according to Senator Kihika, Senate will be keenly following up the matter.
“Let me make it clear that we are not against Nakuru becoming City but what we are saying is that if it will have the interests of the residents at heart then we shall support. Already the matter is in Senate and we shall follow-up,” said Kihika.
Politics surrounding the BBI report were not spared with Senator Kihika stating that as leaders, they are in full support of the report whether through parliament or through the people’s way.
She, however, appealed to the government to ensure the copies of the report are issued to the people so that they can read for themselves.
Similar sentiments were echoed by Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria who also drummed up support for Deputy President William Ruto’s ambition come 2022.
According to Gikaria the BBI recommendations on the position of Prime Minister appointed by President is in order.
He says this will help in ensuring that the Prime Minister does not have excess powers.
“We support the BBI recommendation on Prime Minister being appointed by President,” said Gikaria.
