Disabled persons in Kisii county have a reason to smile following a donation of a range of tools to enhance their businesses among some of the tools donated include sewing, welding and salon machines whose value was estimated at Sh500,000.
Disability is not inability. This statement resonates well with a lot of people and it is against this statement that the National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya (NFDK), decided to help the deserved.
According to the (NFDK) trustee Dr Julia Ojiambo, who was speaking to the media during the ceremony in Kisii, the Tuesday beneficiaries had applied for the fund’s help prior to the donation.
“Those who have received the spectrum of equipment today had applied for them in the financial year 2015-2016 according to their vocational skills,” said Dr. Ojiambo.
Dr Ojiambo warned people with intentions to embezzle funds meant to help the people living with disability saying that they will face the full course of the law if found.
“The fund is committed to empowering the physically challenged through three categories of programs catering for individuals, institutions, and county specific flagship projects,” said Dr. Ojiambo.
Kisii county commissioner, Godfrey Kegochi said the national administration’s role was to vet potential beneficiaries and ensure the tools donated were utilized to improve their economic welfare.
“Protection of the tools against being sold or stolen is important. Everyone must ensure they take care of their tools,” advised the county commissioner,
Other tools that were donated to 24 people living with disabilities included wheelchairs, crutches, equipment for knitting and carpentry.
