The People’s Republic of China is yet to guarantee Kenya its vote in the quest for the UN Security Council seat.  The nation has left both Kenya and Djibouti guessing after it emerged that it does not want to cause a political duel between the two neighbouring countries.

The government has promised to support both countries but failed to live up to the same. The promise has left the two nations in darkness as time elapses.

Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi held a meeting with Djibouti President Ismail Guelleh he promised to stand with the country in the fight to get the seat.

He said that he is ready to ensure there is a win-win relationship between the two nations after the meeting. The meeting has raised suspicion that China could snub Kenya for Djibouti.

“China’s readiness to lend its support for efforts to achieve greater visibility...of Djibouti in international agencies is in line with diplomatic ethics, which is based on the principle of equity between all nations,” Mr Guelleh’s office said.

Despite the failure to keep the promise, Kenya and China continue to enjoy a cordial relationship in different areas. Kenya has already received the support of Algeria among other countries in a bid to win the position in the council.
