A census officer was on Saturday night attacked by a dog while in the process of collecting data in line with the exercise that kicked off on Saturday evening.
The enumerator was reportedly attacked by a neighbour's dog while collecting data at one of the homesteads in West Kamagak location in Rachuonyo South, Homa Bay County.
The incident was confirmed by Rachuonyo Sub County Deputy Commissioner Mohamud Ibrahim, who said that the officer was immediately taken to hospital for treatment.
He said that the enumerator was first treated at the Kisii Hospital where he was given an anti-rabies vaccination before being transferred to a Kisumu hospital for further treatment.
The census which happens once in ten years began on Saturday evening, in a much-hyped exercise in which the State seeks to get the accurate data for planning and policymaking.
The government through the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has since allayed fears of possible manipulation of the data obtained from Kenyans.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has warned against interference in any way, and on Wednesday warned of stern punitive measures against anyone found culpable.
Several cases of delays were however reported in some parts of the country.
