Political commentator Professor Herman Manyora has advised that Deputy President William Ruto should know when to resign from the government.
According to Prof. Manyora, Ruto's resignation would cause political harm to president Uhuru, but only if it comes at the right time.
The Professor was analyzing the reasons why Deputy President Ruto should not resign despite his deteriorating working relationship with the Head of State.
The political analyst pointed out that if Ruto resigns right now he will be vulnerable to attacks.
He, therefore, advised Ruto to stay in power but not for long, as overstaying would also be disadvantageous to him politically given the political environment.
“He is free to quit the government and present his case to the people. But this option is not easy in Africa because when you quit you open yourself to attacks,” Manyora said.
Manyora added that Ruto's current status protects him and limits his humiliation to a certain level.
“If you overstay, people will start asking ‘are you a man to keep being mistreated’. He needs to choose the right time when he can cause the greatest political harm to Uhuru and quit,” he added.
There has been an apparent division in the Jubilee party where a section of the party members sided with President Uhuru Kenyatta while others declared their support for Ruto.
The division has allegedly led to mistreatment of the Deputy President and his supporters.
