The Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ababu Namwamba has reacted after the African Union (AU) offered a resounding endorsement for Kenya's bid for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council.
In a tweet on Wednesday, the CAS expressed his gratitude to the AU for the endorsement.
He said the country would continue to play its role in bringing about international peace, stability and prosperity.
"Thank you Africa for this great honour of African Union endorsing Kenya’s candidature for the UN Security Council seat. Kenya will continue to place ourselves at the service of Africa and the whole world in pursuit of peace, stability and shared prosperity, " his tweet read.
Kenya beat Djibouti in the race for the seat on Wednesday after garnering 37 votes against Djibouti's 13.
The United Nations Security Council consists of 5 permanent members and 10 non-permanent members.
Permanent members are China, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and France.
Non-permanent members are Belgium (2020) Côte d’Ivoire (2019) Dominican Republic (2020) Equatorial Guinea (2019)Germany (2020) Indonesia (2020) Kuwait (2019) Peru (2019)Poland (2019) and South Africa (2020).
Non-permanent members hold the seat for two years and are elected by members of the General Assemby.
