President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday joined other leaders and the entire nation in mourning the demise of Loice Anyango, wife to the late freedom fighter Achieng’ Oneko.
Uhuru said that her death is a big blow not only to the immediate family members but also the entire country.
Anyango, 79, died on Saturday at her home village of Kunya in Rarieda, Siaya County. The death of the wife of the freedom fighter came after she was discharged from hospital after she fell sick sometime back.
Uhuru said that Mama Loice was among the women who inspired millions of Kenyans, adding that she will be missed forever. He also said that the people at her backyard cherished every bit of her.
“Mama Loice was one of the few remaining emblems of our country's freedom struggle. As a loving mother and as a senior citizen, Mama Anyango's philanthropic activities will forever be cherished by the people of Rarieda and indeed all Kenyans," President Kenyatta eulogised.
Uhuru also asked God to give the family courage to stand up during this moment of trial. He said that the government will support the family which is preparing to give Loice a send-off.
“My sincere condolences to the family, friends and relatives of our freedom hero Achieng Oneko on the passing away of Mama Loice Anyango. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult moment,” said President Kenyatta.
