A 14-year-old boy in the United States has wiped out his entire family by shooting dead all his five family members on Tuesday.
According to area authorities, the boy used his 9mm handgun to shoot the five dead at their house in Elmont, Alabama, before calling the police to confess.
In a statement on the Limestone County Sheriff twitter handle, the local law enforcement said that three victims died on the spot while two succumbed at a regional hospital.
"The 14-year-old caller was interviewed and confessed to shooting all five members of his family in the residence," read the statement.
And while the boy said that he tossed the gun nearby, the reasons behind his actions remain unknown, with the police also yet to reveal his identity.
The police said that he is being held by the police as investigations into the matter continue.
He is currently assisting investigators in locating the weapon, a 9mm handgun that he said he tossed nearby," further read the statement.
Such is not new in the country which loses about 36,000 citizens in gun crimes annually, according to the Gifford's Law Center, a US advocacy group.
The organization says that a third of the deaths are a case of homicides.
