Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna has said that the national government is committed to curbing floods in different parts of the nation. Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday night, Oguna said that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto have good plans for victims of floods across the nation.
He said that the government has allocated Sh6.1 billion for floods control. Oguna noted that the funds will be used to construct dams among other projects in flood-prone areas across the nation.
“The Govt. is rolling out plans; building pans, building dams in almost every county in the country to minimize future disaster. As of now, the Govt. has put aside Ksh 6.1 Billion to ensure all areas affected by floods are restored #NewsNight,” he said.
He also asked Kenyans to support the government, adding that measures are being put in place to ensure no more floods are witnessed.
“The Govt. has put in place various intervention mechanisms to ensure those in camps get supplies & are ensuring they are able to start off their lives when they go home. Most of them are unwilling to move from their homes,” he added.
The remarks come after scores perished in West Pokot after landslides.
