Speaking to students at a public lecture at KCA University, the renown radio presenter said that for one to succeed in today's media and entertainment and showbiz world, they need more than just college and university certificates.

“You need more than just papers to succeed in the Kenyan media and entertainment industry,” she said. She went ahead to urge the students to explore their talents and passion while still in school as this will allow them to understand where their passion is and direct their career path.

“Myself I knew I wanted to be in the media and entertainment industry since I was in High school regardless of my parents being against it; I was passionate about it and I knew I had a talent that I needed to explore despite my parents not allowing to pursue media-related course,” she recalled.

Also at the event was Dr. Zipporah Okoth, a performing artiste and a lecturer. She highlighted the market trends in the media and entertainment industry between the years 2000-2019.

She noted that in early 2000, fewer people appreciated the theatre performance and the audience had confined genre. However, the new trend shows that more people are watching theatre and audiences are starting to have a diverse genre.

“In early 2000 we had fewer people attending theatre performance and the audience had a specific genre they wanted to watch, however, the recent trend shows that more are coming out to watch theatre and the audience is diverse in genre,” she said.

She also added that the media and entertainment industry trends demand that one has to be good in more than one thing.

“If you are an actor, be good in other areas like lighting, sound or even scripting. This way you will survive in the industry. Don’t be comfortable in one area, explore other talents you have,” she advised the students.
