Cherangany Member of Parliament Joshua Kutuny has weighed in on the eviction of residents of the Mau Forest.
Speaking to journalists at the Parliamentary Buildings on Wednesday, Kutuny said that the government needs to address the matter with immediate effect.
The lawmaker said that not much has been done to address the issue of the eviction of residents of the forest. He asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to swing into action with immediate effect to rescue the community.
“The community gave you these positions because they had an interest; how far have you gone or utilized the position to address the challenge the people are facing?” he said.
The remarks of the MP comes at a time when some leaders from the Rift Valley region have been opposed to the eviction of the residents of the forest.
Led by Senator Kiphchumba Murkomen and his Kericho Counterpart, Aaron Cheruyoit have asked the government to stop the looming eviction of the squatters from the forest.
The duo has said that it is unfortunate that the government wants to evict their people who stood with it before the last general election.
Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has supported the eviction of the residents of the region. He has insisted that the move will help in the conversation of the forest land.
