West Pokot Governor John Lonyangupuo and some County officials on Thursday decided to ride on a Motobike protesting against the revenue division impasse between the Senate and the National Assembly.
Through a video on the Nation Eldoret Facebook page, Lonyangapuo said Counties have now grounded and that they don’t have money even to pay salaries and soon there will be a financial crisis.
“Its sad that an average of 3000 County employs have not been paid their dues since July yet they have been on duty all through. This is unacceptable and should be condemned with the strongest terms possible,” said the vocal West Pokot governor.
“As the governor of West Pokot, I don’t have money to pay workers until I get it from Nairobi. The fight between National Assembly and the Senate on the amount to be allocated to counties is not got since its wananchi who will suffer,” governor Lonyangapuo added.
He further said the delay has affected county operations with Health, Education, Water, Disaster Management & Public Works, County Public Service, and Procurement departments being the most affected.
Governors and Senators have been pushing for counties to get an allocation of 335 billion instead of 316 billion which the National Assembly has approved.
The governors, together with senators, had been pushing for the allocation to be raised to Sh 335 billion, that the Commission on Revenue Allocation gave counties for the financial year 2019/2020.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has always maintained that governors will not receive more money apart from the Sh316 billion.
