Police officers in Kakamega County are detaining a woman over allegations of injuring her son for alleged theft.
The woman reportedly slashed her son with a panga (machete), accusing him of stealing an egg valued at Sh15, an incident that happened in Mukangu village within Kakamega county.
The incident was confirmed by Kakamega County Criminal Investigations Officer Peter Kimulwo, who said that the class six boy sustained deep cuts on his wrist and fingers.
The woman was arrested by Mukangu village elder Jothan Sumba who said that the incident happened in the absence of the boy's father, who works away.
"I do not understand what came over the woman. I have arrested the suspect and taken her to Kambiri Police Station to record a statement,” he said.
He said that the father has since been notified of the incident and is expected back home on Friday.
“The boy has been living with his mother while his father works in another town. We have informed him of what happened, he is travelling home and we expect him by Friday morning," he added.
Kimulwo said that the suspect will be arraigned in court in due time to face charges.
