Days after the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) top leadership ousted him, emerging details indicate that Knut Secretary-General Wilson Sossion is intending to hold on.
In a press conference on Friday, the team lead by Knut chair Wycliffe Omucheyi accused the Sossion of severing the union's relationship with the government, hence the ouster.
He said that the decision to suspend him had been arrived at during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting the previous day, replacing him with his deputy, Hesbone Otieno.
“We have not had a good relationship with Teachers Service Commission, the Ministry of Education and the government,” said the chair.
However, Sossion is reportedly said to have reached out to the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) in a bid to rally support to retain his seat.
Sossion held a meeting with COTU Secretary-General on Sunday, apparently to seek help to remain in Knut's leadership.
He has since blamed his woes on several top officials from the Ministry of Education whom he has accused of engineering his ouster.
According to him, this has everything to do with his opposition to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) which the Ministry of Education has been pushing to be implemented.
In a press conference on Thursday, moments after the NEC meeting, Sossion said he will not vacate the seat.
