Nairobi Governor earlier in the week appeared before the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) over the same, after being accused of receiving Sh20 million from some companies that were dealing with the county.

Emerging details indicate that Amaco Insurance sent in some of the money that would later be allegedly paid to the governor by one Anthony Otieno Ombok, owner of Arbab Autocare Limited.

Amaco has a running contract to insure county vehicles since 2013 and at the same time offers insurance cover for the Arbab company which is located along Kangundo Road, where county vehicles are taken for repairs.

Details now indicate that after Ombok allegedly wired Sh3.4 million to Sonko, Amaco sent him Sh10.7 million, Sh7.5 and Sh5.3 million, with the two (Sonko and Ombok) giving conflicting information about the same.

But according to details seen by the Nation, Ombok says that he was paying for a piece of land he bought from the governor in Mavoko, with detectives now trying to link the payments to the ongoing probe.

At the same time, the county boss is being probed over claims of receiving a bribe from Hardi Enterprises Limited, a garbage collection company, and also avoiding to remit taxes to the national government.

Speaking to the press earlier, the county boss said that the Sh4.5 billion accrued during the tenure of his predecessor Evans Kidero, but pledged his leadership's willingness to pay.

“Yes, we have their debt but currently we don’t have a problem, as we paid our salaries by August 25 and even remitted Pay As You Earn, and what remains is withholding tax of Sh50 million for August. But we are ready to pay,” he said.
