Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi has poked holes into Thirdway Alliance Dr Ekuru Aukot's Punguza Mizigo bill.
The former vice president rejected the bills premise that reducing political representation was equivalent to reducing the burden on taxpayers in the country.
By claiming that by reducing representation that the burden on taxpayers would be reduced, Musalia said, the proponents of Aukot's initiative were misleading Kenyans.
He spoke on Sunday at during a church Service at St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church in Rarieda, Siaya County, where he was joined by area member of parliament Otiende Amollo.
"For representation, Let us be clear that we are misleading people by saying that by simply reducing the number of constituencies that you have automatically reduced the burden to the ordinary citizen. That is not true. The true are not equal, " the ANC leader contended. (2:34-2:56)
Musalia's intervention adds more resistance to the Punguza Mizigo bill that has touched off political jitters in the country.
He contended that the best way to reduce the burden on the ordinary Kenyans was to deal with the scourge of corruption in places where it manifests itself.
A High Court ordered the country's 47 county assemblies not to debate the bill until a lawsuit against the bill is decided.
The critics of the game-changing bill say that, if adopted by county assemblies, would significantly roll back gains made under devolution.
