The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has netted Sh11 billion from running tax disputes, as part of the taxman's effort to increase its revenue basket.
In a statement on Monday, the taxman said the amount was obtained from 23 resolved tax disputes, revolving around winnings from betting and lotteries, and withheld income tax.
The authority is also yet to rule on 112 more appeals, which are estimated to be worth Sh53.6 billion, and whose judgments the authority's tribunal hopes to conclude on soon.
"To date, the tribunal has heard 112 appeals, which are pending delivery of judgments. The appeals entail disputed tax amounting to Sh53.6 billion whose judgments are expected to be delivered soon," the statement read in part.
The authority said the appeals revolve around sectors of packaging and storage, insurance, banking, manufacturing, construction and betting.
The rulings on the resolved cases were made on December 17 and 18, months after President Uhuru Kenyatta directed the authority to increase its income sources.
Uhuru, late last year, also called upon the judiciary to expedite tax disputes pitting the state and private entities before it.
KRA is by June this year expected to charge 600 suspected tax cheats as was communicated last year.
