Deputy President William Ruto on Wednesday hosted Japan Ambassador to Kenya, Ryoichi Horie, at his Karen office.

Ruto took to social media to share the details of their meeting. He said that the government of Japan and Kenya continue to share cordial ties in different fields of the economy.

“Kenya and Japan continue to strengthen bilateral relations and broaden ties in trade and investment. The two countries are collaborating on harnessing the potential of Kenya's waters and leveraging on scientific advances, maritime security to build a strong blue economy,” he added.

He also revealed the government's plan to expand to the port of Mombasa. 

Ruto, who is considered as one of the front runners in the race for the presidency in 2022, also said that the expansion of the port will pave way for the economic growth of the country in the coming years. 

He noted that the partnership the two nations share is a good idea as far as development is concerned.

“Cooperation on expansion of the Mombasa Port to increase its capacity and efficiency will boost trade, promote connectivity within the EAC bloc. Our partnership in areas of renewable energy, transport, education, manufacturing and agro-farming holds the key to sustainable growth,” he said.
